Today was special –
our friends from Georgia
are here for the summer
and we celebrated it
with a pie for morning
coffee.
Our general path was
up Ball Club Road over
on The Grade and down
Clara Lake Road. We
first went towards Pit
Lake to see if that
Round-leafed Orchis was
still there – we only
found the leaves – looks
like no flower this
year.
We had decided to go
up the Brule Lake road
but just passed it – but
that was good fortune.
Just west, of the Brule
Lake Road on The Grade
were several bunches of
Northern Green Orchids.
They were still somewhat
in bud. Then up the
Brule Lake Road the
Linnea was growing out
of the rock cliff – so
pretty. We looked for
the Michigan Lilies on
the Brule Road but only
found one in bud – it
seems a shame that
someone may have dug
them.
Along The Grade where
we stopped to look at
Iris (past their peak)
but saw many Thimbleweed
in bloom along with Linnea – on the other of
the road.
On the
Yellow
Hawkweed we noticed a
variety of petals – some
were blunt but jagged on
the tips – others were
extremely narrow.
Some of the other
flowers we saw were:
Bunchberry,
Buttercup,
Yellow &
Orange
Hawkweed,
Ox-eye Daises,
Blue Flag Iris,
Purple
and
White Clover,
Yellow
Sweet Clover,
Birds-foot
Trefoil,
Thimbleberry,
Cow Parsnip, Monkey
flower and One-flowered
Wintergreen.
Lunch at Clara Lake
boat launch.
