Our day was filled with changing clouds, sunshine, and cool temperatures--around 65 degrees. The Ragged-fringe orchids were plentiful in the meadow above Grand Marais. Nearby, in the forest, we found Indian Pipe, and Pinesap, Lesser stitchwort, and shinleaf. Many of the summer flowers are past peak now, but some Lupine, Linnea, and Bunchberries are hanging on.

We stopped at the Pit Lake bog area, and saw Marsh cinquefoil, Marsh skullcap, Cow parsnip, and Fringed bindweed among others. The Purple pitcherplants and Small-green wood orchids were numerous, and at their peak.

Picnic at the Cascade River Forest campground. We headed back to town on the Bally Creek Road where we had beautiful clusters of Pipsissewa, along with Spotted coralroot, Turtlehead, and Bearberry leaves. Attempts to relocate the Lesser rattlesnake plantain and Monkey flower were unsuccessful.

Everything considered, a fine day.
