Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 - Report by

After coffee we went up the Gunflint Trail and saw many yellow daisy – like flowers, Goatsbeard, that will turn into giant puff balls – like dandelions only bigger and better. We turned left on the Lima Mountain Road and stopped. We saw so very many Gay Wings – some still in bud.

Then up to the Moose Viewing Area where we saw more Gay Wings, Wood Anemone, Blueberries, Strawberries, Goldthread & Violets, mostly purple.

Back to the Lima Mountain Road and left on Lima Grade – Marsh Marigolds, a sea of Bog Laurel, Cotton grass (view Ken Hupila's photos of cotton grass and bog laurel), Labrador Tea, Bog Buckbean, 3 leaf Solomon Seal and Wild Columbine.

Lunch at East Twin where we saw a Loon and a Eagle.

The Lilacs in town are at their peak and Chokecherry has joined the lovely wild fruit trees.

Along the roadways we saw: Sheep sorrel, Lyre-leaf Rock cress, Buttercup, Winter Cress, Caraway and Yellow Hawkweed.

We went to the area where the runaway trucks go off the Gunflint Trail and saw a new mystery flower. It looks like Indian Paintbrush but the flower and leaves were different.
