My trip around Lake Superior was a lot of fun. We went down to Duluth, then to Superior Wisc., then continued along the southern shore until Copper Harbor where we took the boat to Isle Royale (read about our 2004 Isle Royale trip). It's always nice to be there. Now that we are older we stay in the housekeeping cabins at Rock Harbor and don't camp in the Adirondack Shelters. There are many nice hiking trails where earlier there were many different flowers, but this late in the year there aren't as many.

A new flower for me was the Downy Rattlesnake Plantain. Another thing of interest to me was the Northern Comandra (also spelled Commandra) Escalon livider. It liked to be in dry areas but must have been in moist crevasses. The Comandra we have found here is in a sphagnum bog and is in our book of Endangered flowers in this area. I was told that the Comandra at Isle Royale was Bastard Toadflax but I don't think that was correct.

Back on the mainland we continued around through Sioux St. Marie. But before that we went through a large area of Maples that had already turned color. That was so beautiful but brought to mind the color would soon be here in Cook County.

Wednesday we celebrated B's birthday. After admiring each of our gardens we took a trip up to Naniboujou Restaurant. We both enjoyed our lunch.
