This
is the beginning of our 25th
year of looking at wildflowers
in Cook County, MN. We are three
senior women who just love to
get out and explore and learn
new things. We are even getting
together all winter but don't
find too many flowers at that
time, but no matter.

This week brought us to
many corners of the county.
On the Magnetic Rock Trail,
B saw Wood Lilies, Alumroot,
Calla and Yellow Pond
Lilies.
In Cascade Park we saw
blooming: Northern Coralroot,
Moose Maple, Naked Miterwort and
best of all
Pink Moccasin flowers.
Oberg Mountain in the early
spring is filled with
Spring Beauty and
Dutchman's Breeches - now
they are all gone, waiting in
the ground for their brief show
in the early
spring. We did see quite a few
Sweet Cicily. It was a
beautiful hike with the many
shades of green.
On the Arrowhead Trail both
before and after Stump River
were large colonies of Canada
Anemone and the beautiful
Wild Roses are beginning to
bloom.
On County Road #6 we saw our
wonderful "Natures
Garden" (Yellow
and
Orange Hawkweed and
Ox-eye Daisies and
Yarrow all mixed together.
Along the highways the
Lupine seem to be at their
peak along with Wild Caraway.
Walking along Highway 61 near
my home I was surprised to see
large patches of
Star Flowers and
Bunchberries. The
Bunchbberries have been
there many years but this is the
first time I ever saw Star
flowers in this area - and so
many in a bunch.
