This
report is written by Lorraine
Anderson (lorraine@bwca.cc).
She is part of a group of three
seniors that have been looking
at wildflowers in Cook County,
Minnesota. They have gone out
almost every Wednesday for over
20 years and love it, even in
the winter. But of course there
aren't any flowers in the
winter!!
Wednesday
Wildflower Report: June
18, 2003
Another
beautiful day but black flies
and regular flies are still a
bother. The Marsh
Marigolds are almost gone.
The showiest now is probably
the Bunchberries,
except of course the Pink
Moccasin flowers.
27 new flowers since the last
report.
We went up the
Gunflint Trail to Hungry Jack
Road, then to Leo lake to a
private home to see her Pink
Moccasin flowers.
They were such a beautiful
deep pink - and so many.
Naked Miterwort was
almost gone in her yard and
the Linnea was just
starting. We then went
back down the Trail to the
Clearwater Road and ate at
Flour Lake campground.
Then to the Wild Flower
Sanctuary on the Trail where
the Devil Track River goes
under the road, near
Hedstrom's Mill. We were
pleased how nice it looked.
Then up above Maple Hill Cemetery
on Cougar Trail to see if we
could see any or our
"mystery flowers"
but we didn't. Instead
we saw a nice patch of One-flowered
Wintergreen.
The
"Mystery" has now been solved... Two years later!
