May 7, 2003 - Wildflowers of the
Northwoods and BWCA |
 |
|
|
This
report is written by Lorraine
Anderson ( lorraine@bwca.cc).
She is part of a group of three
seniors that have been looking
at wildflowers in Cook County,
Minnesota. They have gone out
almost every Wednesday for over
20 years and love it, even in
the winter. But of course there
aren't any flowers in the
winter!!
Our good friend
and wildflower enthusiast Mary
Storland died Sunday, May 4,
2003. She was one of the
original three in the Wednesday
Wildflower group. She taught us
to see beauty in so many things.
She was also a wonderful person
and will be missed by many.

In Minneapolis they have
mowed their lawns twice and are
picking dandelions. We have yet
to get a green lawn. We thought
the Spring
Beauty and Dutchman's-breeches
would be in bloom. We went up
the Caribou Trail, turned
right on S. Caribou Road, right
on Ward lake road to a beautiful
Maple woods. Only one or two of
each flower and one violet.
Warmer weather
has finally come, mostly 50's
and lower 60's for the highs. We
think things will be better next
week. We had a wonderful wiener
roast at the Cascade
park picnic grounds down by the
lake. It will be the last wiener
roast for some time. They are
putting the burning
ban on. It feels SO GOOD to
be out tromping in the woods.
Wednesdays are the best day in
the week!!
