May 14, 2003 - Wildflowers of the
Northwoods and BWCA |
 |
|
|
This
report is written by Lorraine
Anderson (lorraine@bwca.cc).
She is part of a group of three
seniors that have been looking
at wildflowers in Cook County,
Minnesota. They have gone out
almost every Wednesday for over
20 years and love it, even in
the winter. But of course there
aren't any flowers in the
winter!!
Spring has
finally come to Grand
Marais. The trees are
beginning to bud and the
hillsides have turned a spring
green color. The weather
is perfect. We took #7 to #45 to
Pike Lake Road to Babinau
Corners where we walked down to
Carla's Maple Woods.

Flowers we
found:
Anemone,
Wood - Anemone quinquefolia
Bloodroot - Sanguinaria
canadensis
Dutchman's-breeches
- Dicentra cucullaria
Spring
Beauty - Clatonia
caroliniana
Violet,
Purple - ?
We then went
to Cascade
Forest Service Campground
and got the best spot and had a
wiener roast. What a wonderful
day.
