Lorraine Anderson
Found blooming in Cook County, Minnesota by Lorraine Anderson (Be sure to check out the past reports linked at the right as well!)
Today we decided to be Bog Seekers, but first we checked
the Arbutus Road. to see if the Gay Wings were still blooming. We didn't
see any there but went to the Lima Mountain Road. and found quite a few
and saw our first Linnea of the year. The bog on Lima Grade was almost
all done. We went into our "secret" road to see if the trucks
had left us any Moccasin-flowers, (Pink Lady's-Slipper) We were very
excited, we saw between 20 & 30 beautiful flowers.
Then to the highlight of the day. We went to the "Limbo Beach
Bog" (halfway between town & Paradise) We stopped at the third
road and walked to the bog. It was wet so we wore boots or old shoes. We
saw Bog Buckbean, Bog Rosemary, Pitcher plants and best of all Arethusa
(Dragon's Mouth). The day was warm and the mosquito's and black flies
weren't bad but the regular or cluster flies were terrible and the tent
caterpillars have been Very Busy. We ate at the base of the east #14.
We saw 2 beautiful, wet moose.
"Natures Garden" (Yellow & Orange Hawkweed and Daisy's)
were appearing here & there.
