Nodding Trillium by Lorraine Anderson

The family took a nice weekend trip to Lake McFarland bordering John Lakes (Entry #69) and Pine Lake (Entry #68). The Arrowhead Trail was yellow with dandelions and marsh marigolds.  The woods were white with a large number of bunchberry and strawberry blossoms.  We had a lot of rain, but some beautiful weather as well.  The seasonal brooks were rushing, and along one of them we found quite a few nodding trillium.

What we saw at Lake McFarland:

Bunchberry - Cornus canadensis
Clintonia (Blue-bead Lily) - Clintonia borealis
Corydalis, Pale or Pink - Corydalis sempervirens
Dandelion, Common - Taraxacum officinale

Geranium, Wild - Geranium maculatum

Lily of the Valley, Wild - Maianthemum canadense
Marsh-marigold - Caltha palustris
Miterwort, Naked - Mitella nuda
Sarsaparilla, Wild or Smooth - Aralia nudicaulis
Starflower - Trientalis borealis
Strawberry, Barren - Waldsteinia fragaarioides
Strawberry, Common - Fragaria virginiana
Sweet Cicely - Osmorhiza claytoni
Trillium, Nodding - Trillium cernuum
Vetchling, Pale - Lathyrus ochroleucus
Vetch, Purple - Vica americana
Violets - purple, yellow & white

Blackberry, Common - Rubus allegheniensis
Cherry, Pin - Prunus pennsylvanica
Dogwood, Red-osier - Cornus stolonifera
