Last Saturday we took a trip to Oberg Mountain and were
thrilled with the forest floor being almost covered with blooming
beauties. It was real exciting! These are the kinds of flowers we saw:
Early Saxifrage - Saxifraga virginiensis
Spring-beauty - Claytonia virginica
Dutchman's-breeches - Dicentra cucullaria
Wood Anemone - Anemone quinquefolia
Violets - Viola - blue, white & yellow
On Wednesday we first went down to the shore of Lake
Superior and found:
Bird's-eye Primrose - Primula laurentiana
Then we traveled on the Devil's Track Road, County Road
#60, County Road #14. It was a beautiful sunny day and lovely temp. We
saw:
Dandelion, Common - Taraxacum officinale
Marsh-marigold - Cowslip - Caltha palustris
Ox-eye Daisy - Chrysanthemum leucanthemum - just
a very few
Strawberry, Common - Fragaria virginiana
Wood Anemone - Anemone quinquefolia
Violets, Yellow Sessil-leaved
Bellwort - Uvularia sessilfolia
Pussytoes, Field - Antennaria neglecta
Early Sweet Coltsfoot - Petasites palmatus
The blooming trees and shrubs we saw were:
Gooseberry - Ribes
Honeysuckle - Lonicera
Currant - Ribes
Juneberry - Amelanchier
The only things we saw on Highway #61
were:
Marsh-marigolds,
Dandelions and Gooseberry bushes
We also drove on Trout Lake Road and Bogus Lake Road
expecting to see many blooming things in that maple woods but saw
practically nothing
