NOAA Weather Transmitters coming to
the BWCA!
Cook County officials will soon install a weather
transmitter in the Gunflint District to alert residents and BWCA patrons
of
bad weather. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
transmitter will provide early storm warning to people who own NOAA
weather radios.
Radios are available for free with rebate from
BoundaryWatersCanoeArea.com (click on the photo below). The
EWR850 Weather Radio automatically gets your attention for emergency
warning broadcasts with an audible siren and flashing red light. You can
monitor the Emergency Alert System and local weather broadcasts 24 hours
a day.
The NOAA transmitters are being planned for installation
near Gunflint and Bogus Lakes and should be operational this fall.
Funding for these transmitters comes from the county and the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). |
