The Canadian counterpart to the Boundary Waters Canoe
Area (BWCA), is the Quetico Provincial Park. The wilderness area, know
for its beautiful lakes and superb fishing, has 2200 backcountry
campsites accessible through six entry points. The park
encompasses 4700 km of wilderness without development of any kind.
No motors and no firearms are allowed.
The Dawson Trail
Campground at French Lake is the only entrance point for visitors who
are seeking drive-in camping, as there are no roads within the Quetico. The campground has 106 campsites, 38 with
electricity, as well as showers, laundromat and other amenities. Three
well-marked, interpretive hiking trails are located along the main
campground road.

de renommée mondiale est situé à l’ouest du lac Supérieur, à la
frontière du Canada et des États-Unis. Le réseau enchevêtré de lacs
servait autrefois de voies navigables aux Ojibwas et commerçants de
fourrures. De nos jours, le parc est surtout fréquenté par les
canoteurs expérimentés qui recherchent la solitude et qui espèrent
apercevoir des animaux sauvages près des cascades, des lacs miroitants
et des forêts sans fin. Le parc est accessible à quatre endroits par
canot et à deux endroits par voiture (au terrain de camping Dawson
Trail et au poste de gardes forestier de Lac la Croix).
