MN Dept of Natural Resources, 7/7/02
The Tuesday Fire near Hovland, MN was contained as of 10:00 PM
Saturday, July 6th. Equipment and personnel were beginning to return to
their home units.
The fire was discovered on July 2nd through aerial detection. Lightning
is believed to be the cause of the fire. It was about 80% contained on
July 3rd, but deteriorating weather conditions caused the fire to get
outside containment lines and it grew to over 400 acres by July 4th.
Crews and equipment were on the scene and were able to hit the escaped
area hard and get the containment line secured once again. Even though
the fire is considered 100% contained, crews and equipment continue to
secure lines, eliminate hotspots within, and level and rehabilitate dozer
lines throughout the day today.
