Finland, MN is located six
miles inland from Illgen City on Highway 1. The small community is
nestled in the Baptism River valley, and is a popular winter destination for
snowmobilers, with the 146 mile North Shore State Trail, the Sawtooth and
Moose Run Trails.
Seventeen miles further
inland on the way to Ely, is Isabella. On the Laurentian Divide,
Isabella sits 2000 feet above sea level, making it Minnesota's
"loftiest" community. The town is the gateway for Boundary
Waters entry points 34, 35 (Isabella Lake), 75 (Isabella River), and 84
(Snake River). During the winter it is a popular area for
cross
country skiing and
snowmobiling, with the Tomahawk and Yukon Trails.
