| The Gunflint area has the longest
ice over season in the state, with an average ice out of May 7 (earliest
4/15/76, latest 5/26/66). Ely area's average ice out is April 30
(earliest 4/10/45, latest 5/23/50). In contrast, Lake Minnetonka
in the Twin Cities has an average ice out of April 13.
